May 16 Arrival & Now in Exeter

We are now at our B & B after an uneventful flight, which is exactly the kind you want! Sara slept about three hours on the plane, but Ken maybe got only one hour of sleep. We had a short bus ride from Heathrow Airport to Woking, then about a three hour train ride to Exeter: a lot of travel for one day.

We set out with good news from friends of improving health (so happy for Erin and Abby), and learned that friends Helen, Amos and their two sons will be able to join us for the start of one day's walk on the 19th (day 2 of the walk), which was great news to find out while waiting at the airport (or indeed at any location). If anyone else can join us at some point please let us know—we are so happy at the thought of friends sharing in this walk with us.

Ken says to thank you all for your emails, and we will respond when we can. Thanks to our friend Joan, who loaned us her playbook, we will be able to post and email at some of our B & Bs if they have wifi. But typing on a touchscreen is not something Sara is used to, which means you might not be reading limpid, flowing, exuberant prose in the style to which you are accustomed. All to the good you could say!

  1. Sounds like your walk-about is moving along well and your are truly seeing the countryside. Of course I really enjoyed the part about the Highland steer and the Exmoor Ponies. All is well at your cottage.
