Ken & Seals on Helm Crag, June 2008 |
After doing Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk across northern England in 2008, we've
definitely been bitten by the walking bug. What to do after the C-to-C
walk? The D-to-D, of course--Devon to Dover in forty days. Ken has
linked together several paths across the south of England from the west
coast, Barnstaple in Devon, to the east coast, Dover in Kent,
approximately 375 miles. He's been thinking about this walk since before
his kidney transplant in January 2011. Now his health is stable enough
for us to travel and do the walk, which would have been impossible
without the transplant. It will be a good holiday, with several visits
to literary sites for Sara, but it will also be a walk of
thanksgiving for Ken's restored health and new lease on life. And, we're
happy that Ken's sister Susan, who donated her kidney to Ken, is able
to join us for a week of the walk, from Salisbury to Farnham.

Sara & Seals at Robin Hood's Bay, June 2008 |
Sara will be attempting to keep a web journal of this trip, at least every few days.
Oh, and walking with seals? It's all the fault of our friend Jennifer, who told us of other friends who took their "Piglet" on vacations and had photos taken with him in different locations. Since then, we haven't traveled without Lucille and Anastasia, our North-Pacific otter-seals.
Stay tuned—the fun begins May 15.
So excited for you and looking forward to following your journey. Have fun.
